I sometimes think we really don't realize how much we already do and how much more we could do in making a difference in a lonely person's life. This message was meant to underscore a focus that one might choose when sharing the Demonstrator opportunity although it also applies to the impact we make on our customers. Here goes:
"Have you heard or read Stampin' Up! talk about how we can all "make a difference?" Those words have been part of our mission statement for 35 years. This is not a new concept for the company. It's the foundation for the company's existence. Let that sink in for a moment. A company whose core is about making a difference in people's lives. We are part of that!
Recently, I heard our CEO, Sara Douglass, say that she views Stampin' Up! as a vehicle to "eradicate loneliness" (her words). She shared this goal and belief poignantly and with passion. It is a powerful and ambitious statement and I believe she is absolutely spot-on. We are already doing much to help but we can do more.
When Demonstrators are surveyed and asked to name their favorite aspects of Stampin' Up!, the #1 answer is always "the relationships." I can fully attest to that in my own life and history with the company. I have met THE most genuine, warm, caring people in my 21+ years. 100% due to Stampin' Up!
The Center for Disease Control states that "social isolation and loneliness have been linked to increased risk for: Heart disease and stroke. Type 2 diabetes."
The National Institutes of Health says "lonely people suffer from more depressive symptoms."
Other sources cite these consequences of loneliness: anxiety, low self-esteem and sleep problems. Risk of dementia. Chronic inflammation. Faster cognitive decline, and increased risk of mortality.
Using Stampin' Up! products, classes (even if virtual), or gatherings (even if it's only the two of you!) creates connection to lessen loneliness. Don't you think? Imagine welcoming someone in October when they get a free ticket to our November 11 OnStage event where they'll be connecting with others for hours. It may just be a huge mood booster.
Why am I bringing this up? To offer a possibly fresh way to view sharing the Stampin' Up! opportunity with someone you know. You may be surprised who says yes when you invite them to join as we really don't know what someone may need in their life. We can bring community to a lonely person. But we won't without asking them if they want to join us.
Please consider your role in furthering Sara's goal to eradicate loneliness through our beloved Stampin' Up!
